At the turn of the millenium, output from the construction industry world-wide was estimated around 3,000 billion US$ yearly, providing jobs for an estimated workforce of 111 million construction workers. European international contractors contribute their profound engineering and management experience in all five continents to the building of infrastructure and industrial facilities for the benefit of the people. By doing so, they will team up with local partners who are familiar with the employment of local personnel, the handling of local suppliers and ready to assist in complying with local legislation and customs. Thus, the value of the contract will for 65 % to 85% be spent locally, depending on the availability of local equipment and supplies. But the benefits of such co-operation are going far beyond the completion of the individual project. They also contribute to a better understanding between peoples and cultures, they provide training on the job and they can be considered as an engine for the transfer of know-how.
